Choosing a hair colour: start with your skin tone
The colour you saw on your phone may not look the same on you. The reason is usually skin tone.
Most clients arrive with a photo on their phone. The colour in the picture is lovely, but the same colour does not sit the same way on everyone. The difference usually comes not from the hair but from the undertone of the skin.
Warm or cool
A simple check: if the veins on the inside of your wrist look greenish, your undertone is warm; if they look bluish, it is cool. Warm undertones carry honey, caramel and copper well. Cool undertones suit ash brown, cool blonde and walnut shades better.
Ash tones are not for everyone
Ash blonde has been the most requested shade for years, but on warm undertoned skin it can make the face look washed out. Rather than giving up on it entirely, pulling the shade a step or two warmer usually solves the problem.
Eye colour counts too
Cool tones stand out more with light eyes. Warm tones soften the features on darker eyes. These are starting points, not rules.
We decide together at the salon
Bring the photo and we will look at the current colour and condition of your hair. Sometimes the target shade cannot be reached in one session; lifting can be hard on the hair. In those cases we suggest a two-stage plan. Talking the result through beforehand is always easier than correcting it afterwards.
