Hair care on holiday in Alanya: what to do after the sea and the pool
Salt, chlorine and sun together wear hair down fast. A few simple habits that protect your hair without spoiling your holiday.
Most people who come to Alanya on holiday notice a change in their hair within two weeks: the colour fades, the ends frizz, the comb catches. There is no single cause. Salt from the sea, chlorine from the pool and a full day of sun all work together.
The two minutes before you swim
Dry hair absorbs sea water like a sponge. Rinse it with fresh water in the shower and the strand is already saturated, so it takes in far less salt. Add a little conditioner and the protection improves again. Those two minutes are the most effective thing you can do all holiday.
Why pool chlorine shifts your colour
Chlorine can leave a greenish cast, especially on light tones and balayage. Rinsing with fresh water as soon as you leave the pool prevents most of it. If the tone has already set, it can usually be corrected in a single salon session; home remedies tend to make it worse.
Sun affects hair like it affects skin
A hat or a light scarf during midday hours noticeably reduces the UV reaching the strand. Spray-on heat and sun protectors help too, but they do not replace a hat.
One session is usually enough afterwards
After two weeks of sea and sun, most hair needs a single care session. At our salon we look at the condition first and suggest keratin or something lighter accordingly. Taking a couple of centimetres off the ends often changes the whole look as well.
