Who is keratin treatment for, and how long does it last?

Keratin does not give the same result on every head of hair. Who benefits, who may be disappointed, and what to do afterwards.

Who is keratin treatment for, and how long does it last?

Keratin is the treatment we are asked about most. The expectation is usually the same: smoother hair, more shine, less work in the morning. On the right hair it largely delivers that, but not on every hair type.

Who gets the best result

The difference is dramatic on hair that frizzes, builds static or swells in humid weather. On wavy, thick strands the blow-dry time drops noticeably. On fine, already straight hair the change is small; you might feel it was not worth the money, and we would rather say so beforehand.

Order matters on freshly coloured hair

If colour and keratin happen on the same day, colour comes first. The other way round, the tone may not hold as expected. After highlights or balayage, waiting a few days is safer.

How long it lasts

Three to five months on average. The single biggest factor is your shampoo. Products containing salt and sulphates strip keratin quickly; with a suitable shampoo, three months easily becomes five.

The first days

For two or three days afterwards, avoid clips, avoid tucking hair behind the ears, and do not wash it if you can help it. That short window directly affects how long the result holds. The exact period depends on the product used, and we tell you specifically at the salon.
